The Partnership for the Prevention of Substance Abuse
Child Abuse Prevention Center
The Child Abuse Prevention Center offers parenting classes based on Dr. Stephen J. Bavolek's Parent/Child Nurturing Curriculum. Classes are offered one night per week, and are generally 8 weeks long. All family members are welcome at our classes - a family meal and childcare is provided. Class locations and timing are based on availability of funding sources.
Upcoming classes which are free and open to the public include:
Staunton River Middle: March 1- April 12 (Mondays)
5:30-7:30 p - Must have 1 child at school
Bedford Middle School: April 15th - May 27th (Thurs)
5:30-7:30 p - Must have 1 child at school
Bedford Elementary: March 15 - May 10 (Mon)
6-8 p - Must have 1 child at school
Appomattox for any Appomattox family with children ages 4-12:
April 6th - May 25th (Tuesdays); 5:30-7:30pm;
Memorial United Methodist Church, Appomattox
For Child Abuse Prevention Month (April), we also offer a Blue Ribbon campaign to remind us all that we each can help prevent child abuse.

PPSA
We bring together concerned citizens to create cooperative prevention efforts that reduce alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and other risk factors to improve the quality of life for Central Virginia. Our activities and services include:- LifeSkills Training Curriculum offered at 10 Central Virginia Middle Schools
- Second Chance Saturday School for Lynchburg Students
- Training Young Men Successfully (a partnership with Churches for Urban Ministry)
- "Say it Straight" and "Project Towards No Drug Abuse" Curriculums
- GIFTS Coalition
